Truth is, installing solar panels for your home is never a mistake. The only considerations that will probably affect installing solar panels for your home would depend on either space or budget. Installing solar panels for your home can be both expensive and cheap, but whichever choice you decide on, it will still save you a lot of money in the long run.

Professional installation is a little expensive and can sometimes reach around $10,000. Do-it-yourself kits, however, would set you back around $200 for basic modules. The amount of money you wish to invest in installing solar panels for your home would depend on how much independency from the local power company you would want.

The nice thing about putting up these arrays is that they can be done in modules. You can segment one panel to handle the lights and the next one to handle the fridge. When coming up with the number of these arrays to install, you must need to compute the total output of your commonly used appliances. Those that you use occasionally you can assign a certain percentage of allowances just in case you run them together with daily used appliances.

A thing to remember is also to make sure that the location of the setup is free from obstructions of any kind. Since the photovoltaic cells need to be in direct view of sunlight, you have to make sure that there are no branches or tall buildings that will cover the arrays from the direction that the sun will travel. Although you can harvest energy even on cloudy days, it will just take longer to charge up. So, if you have equipment or appliances that have heavy loads, this may cause an imbalance in the production requirements.

Another thing you should know is that not only will you be saving huge loads of money with setting up this system for personal use, the government also gives incentives for renewable energy producers. These usually come in the in form of tax rebates. Aside from this, you can hook up with off grid applications with the local power company. This means any excess production you have can be channeled over to them so they can distribute it to other consumers. If you use partial power from them, this can be offset against the monthly bill; otherwise, they pay you if you are totally independent from them.

Not only will you have huge savings, you will be earning from them and it is also safer and better for the environment. What more could you ask for? That is why installing solar panels for your home is probably one of the wisest decisions you can do.

The cost of everything has sharply increased, groceries, gasoline and anything else you can think of has become more expensive than ever before. This coupled with the desire to do more to save the planet is turning people to look into alternative energy, and solar panels in particular.

History

Solar energy is not a new concept, in one form or the other solar energy has been used for many years. Ancient Greeks and Egyptians would build their homes to absorb as much sunlight each day as possible, thereby passively using solar energy.

Even at the beginning of the industrial revolution when coal and oil were in plentiful supply a few people like the inventor Auguste Mouchout realized that these fossil fuels would not last forever. Mouchout went on to create a steam engine powered totally by solar energy, however due to the low cost of coal and the high price of his invention it never really got the recognition it deserved.

Modern Day

Today the interest is in solar energy of another type, more specifically solar panels. A home solar panel array can be small enough to power a few choice appliances or large enough to provide all of your energy needs. You also have the choice of using a home solar panel in conjunction with your current energy provider or as a standalone system.

A grid tied system is the easiest to incorporate and the least likely to leave you without power. All you need is your choice of home solar panel, energy converter and optional battery storage.

For a DIY home solar panel system you will need the same, however the battery storage will be necessary have and not optional. You will want a good battery system to store energy all day to provide for your electrical needs later in the evening when the sun goes down.

DIY

If you have ever priced a home solar panel, you know that an entire system with professional installation can run you $25,000 or more. What you may not know is that you can build a home solar panel for less than $200. All you need is the ability to read and the right set of instructions to be on your way to energy freedom!

There are many reasons to consider a home solar panel for your energy needs. They can offer you cheaper electricity, constant source of power during outages and best of all they give you a simple way of going green. When you realize there is enough solar energy striking the earth in one hour to supply the world demand for a year, it only makes sense to tap into this abundant supply.

In these days especially during the economic recession every penny counts! If you want to slash your electricity bill and start to produce green energy for free click here: Home Wind Power

By building your own homemade solar panels, you can now easily take advantage of free solar energy and lower your electricity bills. This is particularly useful for homeowners in these difficult economic times. Best thing is, the technology to build and install homemade solar panels is now within easy reach of the average consumer.

If you appreciate the occasional DIY project, then this one is perfect for you. With a proper set of tools and the right materials like plywood, glass sheets, and photovoltaic cells, you will be able to start building your own solar energy panels. You probably already have most of the necessary tools at home, and the other materials are easily available in stores or on the Internet.

Where to Install your Homemade Solar Panels

The rooftop is generally the best place to install solar energy panels, as this is the area that usually receives the most direct sunlight. If this is not the case, the panels can also be placed in the backyard, in a spot where the sunlight is not obstructed.

Homemade solar panels are easy to install as long as you have an instructional guide handy. You will find a number of affordable resources available on the Internet that you can use.

Taking it One Step at a Time

The best way to start your project would be to first build a small solar panel. This way, you can familiarize yourself with the process of building the panels more easily. Once you have completed the first panel, you can then start building more until you reach the number required for your home. If you wish, you can even build enough solar panels to provide for all of your home energy needs, making your home completely independent of the regular power grid!

Solar energy panels also require very little effort to maintain, making this a favorable DIY project for many homeowners. If you are willing to put in the effort to make this DIY project work, you will find that building homemade solar panels will save you large amounts of money on your electricity bills.

Want to build your own homemade solar panels but don’t know where to start?

Fret not! Many people just like you have successfully built these on their own to DRASTICALLY cut their monthly electricity consumption. They are already shaving $1000s off their energy bills every year. If you need STEP-BY-STEP guidance in installing one, I have reviewed the Best Online Guides on Homemade Solar Panels for your convenience.
By building solar panels in your home, you can save a considerable amount of money on electricity bills. However, you need to be very careful while building solar panels.

While purchasing silicon solar cells, you should consider buying second-hand or damaged cells as they are cheaper. However, these cells may require you to spend more time while soldering. Based on the current output of the panel and the desired output voltage, you can purchase appropriate number of solar cells. Silicon solar cells usually generate approximately half a volt of current, irrespective of their size. The current output of the solar cells increases with increase in their size. You need to ensure that the size of all cells in the panel is the same to facilitate normal flow of current.

Since silicon cells are fragile, you need to enclose them in a rigid frame to protect them from any kind of damage. The frame can be of metal or wood and its front side should be made of acrylic or glass. Usually, frames are rectangular-shaped and consist of many columns and rows of cells placed close to each other. The edge of the frame should be high enough to cover the solar cells.

Before attaching the cells, you need to check each one of them with a a voltmeter to ascertain whether it produces current, when placed in sunlight. After this, you can place them close to each other with their tabs wired together and thin wires facing outwards. Automotive solar panels are a perfect choice, when it comes to wiring solar panels. After connecting and attaching the cells properly, you can attach them to the plywood board using an adhesive.

Before putting the transparent cover, you need to test the panel outputs with a voltmeter to ensure that it produces the desired voltage. You can boot the panel voltage by connecting the solar cells in series. For this, you need to connect the positive lead from one cell to the negative lead of the other.

After building solar panels, you can install them in an area, which receives the maximum amount of sunlight.

By building solar panels, you can cut down your electricity costs.

I would like some info on Solar panels and Wind Generators…please?

Does anyone own any and would you recommend them? right now i only own solar stake lights and i use them during the summer in my yard. But during the winter i take them out because they don't charge well.

I live in toronto canada where it snows a lot during the winter, would it even be worth it to buy solar panels? Would they get covered with snow if the were mounted on my roof and get ruined?

I plan on buying some when i purchase my own home.

Any info would be appreciated:)
